Introduction
This book presents the archaeological research outcomes of Huang Jianhua, a researcher at the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics and Archeology Research Institute. A wide range of historical records, in combination of fine pictures of cultural relics, are offered to explain the origin of the Sanxingdui culture, as well as the theocracy, religion, economy, and culture of the ancient kingdom of Shu (in today’s Sichuan). It demonstrates the rich and varied life of the ancient Shu people, the advanced manufacturing techniques of the times, and the kingdom’s economic and cultural exchanges with other civilizations in Southwest China, South Asia, and West Asia, highlighting the uniqueness of the ancient Shu civilization and its connection to the Chinese civilization.
