Born in 1924, Prof. Ye Jiaying has devoted her whole life to classical Chinese poetry. She taught in many top universities in Taiwan region, the United States and Canada. Since 1974, she returned to China every summer to teach at numerous universities including Nankai University in Tianjin. After her retirement from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada in 1989, she chose to teach at Nankai University until today. The book collates Prof. Ye’s manuscripts and more than 100 precious pictures of her teaching and writing at the Nankai campus, as well as anecdotes contributed by her students, family members, friends and assistants about Prof. Ye, showcasing the warm relationship between Prof. Ye and Nankai. Following the stories of how Prof. Ye settled at Nankai for the later part of her career and established the China Comparative Literature Institution, readers will understand Prof. Ye’s dedication to classical Chinese literature and her love to the motherland. So will readers be inspired by her imaginary teaching style, appreciate her poetry theory of “inspiration and moving” and value the beauty of the “weak virtue”. Prof. Shen Liyan, former dean of the School of Literature, acts as the editor-in-chief whilst Prof. Ye personally reviewed and approved the final version. Including latest chronology, catalogue of works, honours and donations of Prof. Ye, the book is of high literary, historical and academic value.
