Introduction

This book adopts pictures and videos to reveal the lofty character and strong will of national intangible cultural heritage (ICH) inheritors, including Xia Houwen, who has innovated the Longquan celadon; Zheng Xiuqian, who is a lacquer needle carving master; Zhong Liansheng, who is devoted to studying cloisonne techniques; Gao Dianliang, who carries forward the papercutting culture of Weixian County; He Fuli, who is skilled in bamboo weaving; Jin Wen, who is a brocade master; Lang Zhili, who has skilled hands to create vivid dough figures; Li Dingning, who inherits fine craftsmanship in ivory carving; Niang Ben, who is a thangka master; and Zheng Meifang, who creates exquisite embroidery products. A majority of these senior artists have grown up with rich folk culture, absorbed the ICH essence passed down by ancestors, and devoted most of their life to the diligent and tireless pursuit of their craftsmanship. They have inherited, innovated and carried forward the ICH techniques, and passed them on to the next generations, contributing to China’s ICH development.
