Born in 1922, Professor Wu Liangyong is a renowned Chinese architect, urban planner and educationist, an academician of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a former professor of the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University. Founder of the science of human settlements in China, Wu has developed his own theory of urban planning centering on human settlements. Using the theory, he has conducted a series of urban planning research and practices covering regional planning, urban planning, architecture and landscape design. Wu is a winner of the World Habitat Awards and the Tan Kah Kee Science Award, as well as a Gold Winner of the ARCASIA awards for Architecture. In 2012, he was also awarded the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award of 2011. Besides, he has received a number of honorary titles from the US, France and Russia.
