China Publishing Group (CPG) is the most influential trade and professional publishing group in China. It has been on the list of Top 30 Chinese Cultural Enterprises Since 2008.
CPG is made up of 40 publishing imprints with 96 subsidiaries, which annually produce over 20,000 titles of books, audio-visual publications, electronic and online publications, as well as more than 50 newspapers and magazines. It leads the country with the biggest domestic book retail-market share, ranking number 1 for 17 consecutive years.
Among all these editorially and creatively independent imprints and brands, CPG boasts the oldest and the most prestigious publishing houses in China, such as the Commercial Press, established 125 years ago; Zhonghua Book Publishing Company, with a history of 110 years; Sanlian Publishing Company, founded 90 years ago; the People’s Literature Publishing House, the People’s Fine Arts Publishing House and the People’s Music Publishing House, each with a history of over 70 years; as well as Rongbaozhai, a well-known art gallery whose history dates back to the 1700s.
CPG carries out foreign rights transactions of more than 2000 titles every year.
Among CPG’s subsidiaries is China National Publications Import and Export (Group) Co., Ltd. (CNPIEC), the country’s largest publications import and export enterprise, which handles over 200,000 publications every year, accounts for 62% of book import and 30% of export of the domestic market. CPG owns 17 overseas publishing houses, chain bookstores and offices, with operation in more than 130 countries and regions.
