There are altogether 36 lessons in the book. The first 20 lessons are about poetry, beginning with The Book of Songs and Li Sao, and ending with Li Shangyin of late Tang Dynasty. The other 16 lessons are about the introduction of Ci, a type of classical Chinese poetry  fully developed in the Song Dynasty. The second part begins with the first Huajian Ci poet Wen Tingyun and ends with Wang Yisun of the late Southern Song Dynasty.  Through these 36 lessons, the readers could master the development and evolution of Chinese classical poetry,  thus they can get a further insight into the mystery of classical poetry, and realize the life and function of the poetry.
