The meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on May 14, 2020 stressed the necessity of implementing supply-side structural reform to unleash the potential of China’s huge market and enormous domestic demand, thus creating a new development dynamic that focuses on domestic economic flow and features positive interplay between domestic flow and international engagement. This is a concept the central government has been fine tuning since 2020. This book systematically explores the relationship between the double-circular model and other economic development strategies of China, including heavy investment in new infrastructure, new urbanization initiatives and major projects, innovation-driven growth of the digital economy, upgrading of real economy, the Belt and Road Initiative, and regional development within the country, in the new era. It aims to inform discussion on policies designed to unleash China’s potential for economic growth and respond to challenges and risks rising in global competition.
