The book focuses on the translations of Chinese literature and eight representative Chinese and foreign translators. It is a thorough study of the translations and the translators of the Chinese literature from the 1920s and 1930s till now. The eight translators include British sinologists Harold Acton and David Hawkes, the American sinologist John Balcom, New Zealand expert Rewi Alley, Chinese translators Lin Yutang, Xiong Shiyi, Eileen Chang and Eva Hung.
