This manual contains a selection of more than 50 paintings by Wang Xuetao, who created a large number of realistic paintings of tiny creatures, including grasshoppers, frogs, dragonflies, wasps, butterflies, praying mantises, and longhorns. He was skilled at using various shades of ink and integrating the color pattern used in Western paintings into traditional Chinese paintings to create a pleasing color contrast and add more rhythm to the painting.
