The book consists teaching notes of 13 lectures, covering such topics as Chinese characters, wedding and funeral rites, family and society, Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, Yin-Yang and Five Elements, folk beliefs, and traditional world views. Substantial additions and modifications, including new illustrations and a list of recommended reads at the end of each lecture, have been made in this new edition. This book not only offers a glimpse into the history and culture of ancient China but also creates a link between ancient China and modern China.
