This book recounts the heroic story of Huang Jiguang (1931-1952). Born in Zhongjiang County, Sichuan Province, Huang Jiguang (1931-1952) served as a correspondent in the 2nd Battalion, 135th Regiment of the People’s Volunteer Army (PVA) deployed by the People’s Republic of China during the Korean War. His name is forever etched in history for his heroism at the Battle of Shangganling. Facing a hail of enemy fire that stalled their advance, Huang Jiguang emerged from cover and, in a selfless act of valor, used his own body to shield his comrades from the machine gun fire, clearing the path for their progress. This ultimate sacrifice earned him posthumous recognition as a member of the Communist Party of China, the title of “Exceptional Hero” from the PVA, and the title of “Hero”, Gold Star Medal, and First-Class National Flag Medal from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
